Privacy Policy

Last updated August 2026

This page explains what VeryRare Media collects and why, in plain terms. It's written for a small, private, self-hosted platform run by Very Rare Society for its own members — not a commercial service, and not a substitute for legal advice.

What we collect

  • Your account.Sign-in is handled by the Society's Jellyfin server, which stores your username and password — this platform never sees or stores your password itself.
  • A session cookie. An httpOnly cookie identifies you as signed in after you log in. It isn't used for tracking or advertising, and it's cleared when you sign out.
  • Watch and listen activity. Playback position and history are recorded so Continue Watching, resume points, and Listen Together sync work correctly.
  • Wishlist and preference data. Games you wishlist, and similar per-account preferences, are stored on the server tied to your account.
  • IP address, briefly. Used only to rate-limit login attempts and room creation against abuse — not retained beyond that purpose.

What we don't do

  • No advertising, and no ad trackers of any kind
  • No third-party analytics tracking your activity across other sites
  • No selling, renting, or sharing member data with advertisers or data brokers

Third-party lookups

To show game details, cover art, and song lyrics, the server looks up titles against IGDB, SteamGridDB, and Genius. Those requests send only the title being looked up (e.g. a game or song name) — never your account information or personal data.

Where data lives

Everything is stored on infrastructure Very Rare Society controls directly — not a third-party cloud platform, and not shared with any outside company.

Questions

If you want to know exactly what's stored for your account, or want it removed, reach out via the Contactpage or the Society's Discord.
